For travellers

Carry a parcel on a trip you are already taking.

You are already going somewhere. Someone needs something taken there. Selfpost puts the two together, with confirmations on both sides: an ID check, parcel details you read before you commit, payment settled before you collect, and a one-time code that closes the delivery.

Searching is open to everyone. Before you take your first parcel you set up a payout account with Stripe, which is where you confirm who you are and where the money should go.

Before you agree to anything

  • You know who the sender isNobody can post a delivery request without passing an ID check by an identity verification service. You confirm who you are with Stripe when you set up how you are paid, in the same couple of minutes that collects your payout details.
  • You see the parcel before you commitThe request describes the parcel and the route. You read it, then decide whether to propose carrying it — nothing is assigned to you.
  • Only trips you were making anywayYou search requests along a route you were travelling anyway. There is no schedule to keep, no minimum, and no obligation to take anything.
  • A code ends the job cleanlyThe recipient gives you a one-time code once they have the parcel. Entering it is what marks the delivery complete.

How carrying works

  1. 1

    Search your route

Look through open delivery requests between the places you are already travelling between.

  2. 2

    Read the request

Check what the parcel is, where it has to go and what the sender is offering. If it does not suit you, move on.

  3. 3

Set up how you are paid

The first time you take a parcel, Stripe asks who you are and where the money should go. It takes a couple of minutes and you do it once.

  4. 4

    Propose to carry it

Send the sender a proposal. Nothing is committed until they accept it — and they can decline.

  5. 5

    The sender pays

Once your proposal is accepted, the sender pays by card through Stripe. Only then does the order move on to the handover.

  6. 6

    Collect the parcel

After payment is confirmed, the order gives you the contact details you need to arrange the pickup.

  7. 7

    Deliver and enter the code

Hand the parcel over, take the one-time code from the recipient and enter it. That completes the delivery.

You stay in control

Nothing happens to you without your say-so.

Every step on the traveller's side is opt-in. You choose the trip, the request and the moment you commit, and the checks that protect the sender protect you in the same way.

Both sides pass the same ID check

Verification by an identity verification service is required before an account can post a delivery request, offer to carry one, or pay. It is not a badge some users have and others do not — without it there is no deal to join. Stripe processes the documents; Selfpost does not store them.

You choose what you carry

You read the parcel details first and decide whether to propose. You are never assigned a delivery, and you can decline anything.

Payment is settled before pickup

The sender pays through Stripe after accepting your proposal and before you collect the parcel, so you are not carrying something on a promise.

One order, one record

The request, the proposal, the payment and the delivery confirmation all stay attached to the same order, so both sides are looking at the same history.

Your responsibility

What you have to check yourself.

Selfpost provides the request, the payment and the delivery confirmation. It is not the transport carrier, and carrying someone else's parcel across a border is your legal responsibility.

  • Only lawful items, permitted at every point on your route. If you are not sure what is in the parcel, do not take it.
  • Airline or transport-provider rules, baggage limits and any fees are yours to check before you agree.
  • Customs requirements and restrictions at both the origin and the destination apply to you as the person carrying the parcel.
