Terms of Service

These terms explain the roles of Selfpost, senders and travellers, and the checkpoints that make up a delivery.

1. Operator and scope

These Terms govern use of the Selfpost website and services operated by Selfpost UG (haftungsbeschränkt), Fürstenrieder Straße 279 a, 81377 München, Germany, registered with the Amtsgericht München under HRB 258200.

Selfpost operates an online intermediary platform. It enables a sender to publish a delivery request and a traveller to submit a proposal to carry the parcel. Selfpost does not collect, transport or deliver parcels and is not the carrier. The sender and the accepted traveller are responsible for agreeing and performing the delivery within these Terms and applicable law.

2. Accounts and eligibility

You must provide accurate account information, keep your login details secure and use the service only for lawful purposes. You are responsible for activity performed through your account unless you notify Selfpost promptly of unauthorised use.

Identity verification is required before a user can move an order towards a deal. Verification is carried out by a third-party provider. A failed, incomplete or expired verification may prevent the user from creating, accepting or progressing a delivery.

3. Delivery requests and proposals

A sender creates a request describing the parcel, pickup and delivery locations and the total price offered for the delivery. The sender is responsible for making the description complete and accurate, including the parcel's contents, size, weight and any handling information.

A traveller may submit a proposal for a request that matches a journey they intend to make. A proposal does not create an accepted delivery until the sender accepts it. Neither party should arrange pickup outside the platform before acceptance and payment confirmation.

The sender remains responsible for providing accurate recipient information and for having a lawful basis to share that information. The traveller receives the recipient contact details only after payment has been confirmed and may use them only to perform the delivery.

4. Price, platform fee and payment

The price entered by the sender is the whole delivery price charged to the sender. Selfpost retains 15% of that amount as its platform fee; the remaining 85% is the traveller's delivery compensation, subject to any lawful deductions that are disclosed before payment.

The sender pays by card through Stripe after accepting a proposal and before pickup. Stripe processes the card payment; Selfpost does not receive or store the sender's full card details.

The traveller's share is released after the delivery is completed with the delivery code.

5. Pickup, delivery and the delivery code

At pickup, the traveller may inspect the parcel and compare it with the request. The traveller may refuse a parcel that is unsafe, unlawful, incorrectly described, improperly packed or materially different from the request.

The recipient receives a one-time delivery code from the sender. At handover, the recipient gives that code to the traveller. Entering the valid code is the platform event that completes the order. A party must not enter, request or disclose the code before the parcel has actually been handed over.

6. Prohibited and restricted items

Users must not offer or carry anything prohibited by the law of the place of departure, destination or any place through which the traveller passes, or anything prohibited by the relevant transport operator.

  • weapons, ammunition, explosives or components intended for them;
  • illegal drugs, controlled substances or unlawful medicines;
  • stolen, counterfeit or otherwise unlawful goods;
  • cash, negotiable instruments or items whose carriage would breach financial or customs rules;
  • hazardous, flammable, corrosive, toxic or infectious materials;
  • live animals, human remains or biological specimens;
  • goods requiring a licence, declaration, temperature control or specialist handling unless all legal requirements are met and the traveller has expressly agreed.

7. Cancellation, non-delivery and refunds

An order can be cancelled only when the service makes cancellation available and the server confirms that the requesting user and the current order state are eligible. Eligibility depends on the user's role, the delivery stage and whether a payment, refund or traveller payout has already begun. The reason is recorded with the order.

A parcel not being delivered does not by itself create an automatic full refund. The sender can report the problem through the support conversation linked to the order. Selfpost Operations reviews the conversation and available order evidence before a human operator decides whether a refund or another outcome is appropriate.

Where Operations approves the standard non-delivery refund, the refundable amount is limited to the part of the delivery price allocated to the traveller. Selfpost retains the platform fee, unless mandatory law or a separately agreed remedy requires a different result. The refund is issued through Stripe to the card that was charged and its arrival time depends on the sender's bank.

A traveller payout and a sender refund are mutually exclusive outcomes for the same payment. After the traveller payout has been executed, the standard platform refund is unavailable. A delivery completed with the delivery code is not automatically refundable, but a user may still raise a support request for human review.

8. Responsibilities, complaints and liability

The sender is responsible for the parcel's contents, lawful shipment, accurate description, adequate packaging, customs information and any permissions or declarations required for the route. The traveller is responsible for safeguarding an accepted parcel while it is in their possession and for complying with travel, carrier, customs and border rules.

Selfpost provides the intermediary platform and its technical checkpoints. Selfpost is not a party performing the physical carriage and does not take possession of the parcel. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for intent, gross negligence, injury to life, body or health, or mandatory consumer rights.

Selfpost provides no insurance for a parcel. Loss of or damage to a parcel remains a matter between the sender and the traveller, subject to any review or remedy that Selfpost is legally required or expressly agrees to provide. A support review does not make Selfpost the carrier or insurer.

9. Suspension and termination

Selfpost may restrict or suspend access where reasonably necessary to protect users, investigate fraud or misuse, comply with law, or address a material breach of these Terms. Users may request account deletion, subject to records that must be retained for legal, accounting, fraud-prevention or dispute purposes.

10. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Germany. If you are a consumer, this choice does not deprive you of the mandatory protections of the law of your country of habitual residence.

Raise a complaint through the built-in Support conversations or at info@selfpost.com. Selfpost Operations reviews support records and relevant order evidence. Automated tools may help organise a case, identify safety concerns or prepare a draft, but a human operator remains responsible for decisions and user-facing replies. Selfpost is not committed to resolving disputes before a consumer arbitration board, and is not obliged to take part in proceedings before one.

11. Contact

Questions about these Terms may be sent to info@selfpost.com. The operator's full legal notice is on the Impressum page.

Version 1.1, effective 29 August 2026. This version aligns cancellation, non-delivery, refund and support-review terms with the service workflow.
